In Rilland, McCain will manufacture breaded mushrooms, a product previously produced at a facility in Yerseke by Scelta Products. The Yerseke location will focus solely on the development of new products, while the new factory in Rilland will also produce cheese snacks for Van Geloven, a company that has been part of McCain Foods since 2016.
Growing in the international market with appetizer products
In September 2022, the renowned fry producer acquired Scelta Products, a Zeeuws company specialized in vegetable snacks such as onion rings, breaded mushrooms, and appetizers made from broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. The facilities and product range of Scelta are now integrated into McCain's operations. This acquisition provided McCain with the opportunity to expand its presence in the European and international markets with these appetizer products."We plan to continue investing in our Dutch facilities in the coming years. The opening of the Rilland factory allows us to drive innovation in the appetizer industry," said Max Koeune, President and CEO of McCain Foods, as reported by local newspaper PZC.
The new Rilland factory is expected to create around forty new jobs, with a total investment of 36 million euros planned for this and the following year.

The new factory has been designed to maximize the reuse of residual heat, such as using it to heat offices and cleaning water. Additionally, the building is equipped with over 3,000 solar panels. However, due to the energy-intensive nature of cooling and freezing processes, the new location is not yet fully energy-neutral.
