Zero emission transport
The environmental impact of the logistics and transport sector is high and needs to be reduced, but the transition to zero emission transport is difficult and complex. How fast are technological developments advancing? Which ones should you follow, how, when and with what investment? What is the status of regulations? We are happy to inform you about all these aspects.
Together with companies, the government and knowledge institutes, we work on solutions. Within Zeeland Connect, we initiate and conduct research on alternative fuels and propulsion techniques, energy-saving solutions, electric vehicles and multimodal transport shifts between road, rail and maritime traffic.
Do you have questions about developments in this field, do you want to take steps in zero emission transport, or participate in projects, pilots or knowledge sessions? Get in touch with us.
Autonomous transport
Autonomous transport is well on its way to occupying a permanent place in the logistics sector. It makes logistics processes more efficient and less labour-intensive, and offers a solution to the shortage of drivers. But at what state of progress is it? What options are currently available and what about the laws and regulations? We are on top of it, and are working with companies, government and knowledge institutions on answers and innovations.
This is what we are seeing:
- A first step towards autonomous transport is truck platooning. One driver drives a truck, a convoy of three to five self-driving trucks follow closely.
- Use of autonomous transport for ‘the last mile’.
- A future with fully autonomous vehicles and (inland) vessels, controlled from a control room with operators, drive and sail 24/7 to and from hubs in an (inter)national network.
Are you interested in learning about the possibilities of autonomous transport for your company or would you like to participate in a programme, pilot or knowledge session? Get in touch with us.
Digitalisation and robotisation
Digitalisation and robotisation have been around for a while now as a means to work more efficiently. Many developments are happening in this area, and the need for them is only increasing with the growing labour shortage. We play an active role in the development of innovations and, as one of the initiators of Digitaal Doen Zeeland, aim to inform companies about the possibilities and get them enthusiastic.
These are the developments we are currently seeing within the logistics sector:
- Working paperless is the future. An example: the Digital Waybill.
- Self-learning logistics systems drive faster and more effective logistics processes.
- Logistics companies that focus on digitalisation know how to maintain and strengthen their market position.
- Fast data connections, such as 5G in ports.
Digitalisation and robotisation can help your company become more efficient and flexible and less dependent on the labour market. Are you interested in the possibilities for your company, do you have any questions or doubts, or would you like to participate in pilots or knowledge sessions? Get in touch with us.
Logistics flows and connections
Within Zeeland’s logistics, how can we offer higher frequencies, more destinations, and respond flexibly to the changing needs of shippers? Together with the partners involved, we are exploring answers to these questions. As such, we are an active partner within Zeeland Connect, executing party in the Top Sector Logistics programme and coordinator of regional and national initiatives regarding Joint Corridors.
We tackle issues such as:
- How can we improve the logistics connections to trading companies and manufacturing companies?
- How can we promote closer cooperation between shippers and carriers in Zeeland and bundle as many cargoes as possible?
- What public and private infrastructure is needed for optimal transport flow?
Would you like to be involved in (the research into) these developments? Perhaps you are wondering which transport flow is most ideal for your specific cargo? Or are you planning to switch from transport by road to transport by water? Get in touch with us.
