A hotspot for entrepreneurs in the chemical and process industry

Why Zeeland?

Major global players such as Dow, Yara and ICL-IP benefit from its strategic location, excellent logistics infrastructure, and the many synergies that are created here.

Zeeland offers unique advantages for plastic pyrolysis. The established local chemical cluster provides opportunities for sales and collaboration. Zeeland offers access to multiple sources of plastic waste from the most densely populated metropolitan areas in Northwest Europe. There is good access to other leading European chemical clusters via waterways, the rail network, pipelines and roads. Moreover, we offer practical, confidential support to help you implement your project quickly and cost-effectively.

One of the largest chemical clusters of Northwest Europe is located in Zeeland. Global players including Dow, Trinseo, Yara, ICL-IP and related logistics companies such as Katoen Natie and Ravago are based here. They benefit fully from the synergy created by this large cluster.

Zeeland is strategically located, in the centre of Northwest Europe. From here, a market of some 300 million consumers can be reached very easily. Not only for product sales, but also as a source of raw materials such as plastic for your plastics pyrolysis facility.

Zeeland has an excellent congestion-free infrastructure, both in terms of the waterways, roads and railway network and the telecommunications, energy and underground pipeline network. The region is home to one of the most important ports in Europe: North Sea Port. The port is located directly on the North Sea and reaches as far as Belgium. In the future, there will even be a direct canal connection to Paris.

Companies in Zeeland’s chemical cluster work together intensively, the lines of communication are short and parties successfully make use of each other’s resources, both in terms of materials and knowledge.

In close proximity to the chemical cluster, along the Western Scheldt Tunnel and literally at a stone’s throw from Dow, you will find the Maintenance Value Park. This is where maintenance companies in the process industry cluster. The clustering of these companies at this business park creates close partnerships and gives innovation a major boost.

Zeeland offers a number of valuable networks aimed at exchanging knowledge and developing concrete business cases in the chemical and process industry, but also across sectors.

An example is Smart Delta Resources, a partnership of local governments, ports and large companies from the chemical, steel, energy and food industry in the Delta region (Zeeland, West Brabant and Flanders). They have joined forces in their ambition to achieve a competitive and climate-neutral industry by 2050. The Circular Biobased Delta network also contributes significantly to this.

The networks provide a huge boost to innovations on shared sustainability issues. This has resulted in numerous successful business cases so far. Impuls is a reliable knowledge partner in this.

Green hydrogen is crucial for the sustainable future of the chemical industry. As part of the Smart Delta Resources region, Zeeland is the largest sustainable hydrogen cluster in the Benelux. The presence of a strong offshore wind energy cluster and a huge solar panel park contribute significantly to this. And it is why companies such as Orsted, SeaH2Land and VoltH2 chose Zeeland.

Developments in Zeeland’s chemical and process industries

The chemical sector in Zeeland is developing rapidly. Thanks to the large chemical industry cluster, the immediate proximity of a strong energy cluster and close partnerships between companies, government bodies and knowledge institutions, the pace of development is fast.
